How Many Students Change Their Major In College

RESTON, Va.--( BUSINESS WIRE )--Ellucian, the world'southward leading provider of software and services built to power higher education, today published the findings of its new survey, "Form Correction: Helping Students Observe and Follow a Path to Success." The Ellucian survey, conducted in partnership with Market Connections, queried 1,000 U.S. students currently enrolled in two- or 4-year public and individual college programs.

The survey found that college students, peculiarly those in Generation Z, struggle to pick a major, which increases the time and cost associated with obtaining a caste. Many incoming students are not confident in their career path and most ii-thirds of students feel overwhelmed by the procedure of selecting a major. The Findings

Today's higher students are dislocated and anxious when it comes to selecting a major.

  • 28 percent of students said their change in major delayed their expected graduation rate by 2 or more than semesters.

Students rely on advisors for support when choosing classes but could use more attending when transferring.

  • 71 percent of students find value in learning communities and cake scheduling.
  • Students are highly interested in new, personalized technology to aid them stay on track.
    • 80 percent of students say an online "what-if" tool for majors and degrees would aid them stay on runway.
    • 70 percent say an online "one-stop store" for all essential student services would be very or extremely helpful.
    • 66 percent would do good from proactive advising/targeted interventions.
    • 62 percent expressed interest in date reminder nudges.
